Data Storage and Management you can trust

Almir Business Ltd and Data Storage & Management Ltd ISO 27001.2005 NQA Certification

Data Storage & Management Ltd (DSM) is located in a modern high-bay facility within the Annacotty Industrial Estate on the outskirts of Limerick City (23,410 square feet). DSM provides a data storage & management service to its customers throughout the Mid-Western, Midlands & Southern Regions. This service deals with all aspects of data management including off-site storage for hard copy documents as we as back-up media with inventories of records and other services available on-line. It also includes scanning/imaging and shredding as required.

This year DSM introduced a new service whereby companies and organisations can manage and track documents/media that are retained on the customers’ own site as well as off-site. This on-site database can be integrated with DSM’s off-site database to form one complete and cost effective desktop solution to document management and retention.

DSM is in its seventeenth year of successful trading having registered as a limited company in September 1998. We have a well-established team (10) of hand-picked and dedicated staff who have significant experience in the data storage business and are committed to consistently looking after the needs of our customers.

Wendy Ryan, Managing Director stated the “Security and confidentiality are paramount to our customer and all staff members sign a confidentiality agreement to support this. DSM systems are audited externally at least twice per year as DSM holds ISO 9001 quality standard and ISO 27001 Information Security standard. ISO 27001 is the only auditable international standard which defines the requirements for an Information Security System. The standard is designed to ensure the selection of adequate and proportionate security controls. Almir Business has been with us every step of the way providing guidance and support in the implementation of both standards and we continue to use their service to maintain and improve both management systems”
In very recent years, while the use of back-up tapes/CDs has not declined, the concept of backing up data on-line has also grown in importance and popularity.  It is easy to operate and once set up it enables each company to run its back-ups on-line as often as required. It also facilitates the restoration of this data on-line and eliminates the use of tapes and vault storage over time. DSM can now offer this service to its customers in partnership with Keep it Safe Ltd, a company dedicated to the development and implementation of this process.”

Last month Donal Galligan Operations Manager at Takumi Precision Engineering spoke at annual Shannon Chamber Lean event in Zimmer.

Speaking on Takumi’s lean journey under the Enterprise Ireland supported LeanPlus initiative Donal stated that ”Lean is now embedded into our organisation. We are already benefiting from significant savings from its incorporation, all thanks to being introduced to the concept by Enterprise Ireland and Almir Business Ltd. It’s an imperative part of our business now.” Mr Galligan shared how their Lean Plus programme brought improved quality, planning, control, operational savings and new customers with enhanced capability and capacity.

This annual Shannon Chamber and Zimmer event is always well attended and this year was no exception. Adrian Furey, Managing Director of Zimmer outlined what a paperless shopfloor entails and their plans to introduce an electronic Device History Record system. “We are now introducing an electronic DHR system, which will be fully in place by the end of 2014. This will almost totally eliminate paper based records, our operations will be aligned to customer service requirements and react real-time to changes. Moving to a paperless environment will improve our quality compliance and data access; we will have better information, and will be able to make better decisions. It’s all part of being Lean,” added Mr Furey.

Information Security Management System ISO/IEC 27001

Information Security Management System ISO/IEC 27001The internationally  recognised Information Security Management System ISO/IEC 27001  has been formally revised with a new revision since September 2013. The structure of the new standard is very different to the older ISO/IEC 27001:2005. But the changes will be good news for organisations implementing an integrated management system with one or more standards.  The new standard aligns to ISO 31000 for risk management. This allows companies to apply the same risk assessment methodology across several standards.

So what are the main changes?

  • The revised standard has been written using the new high level structure, which is common   to all new management systems standards. This will allow easy integration when implementing more than one management system
  • Risk assessment requirements have been aligned with ISO 31000
  • Preventive action has been replaced with “actions to address, risks and opportunities”
  • SOA  (Statement of Applicability),  requirements are similar, with more clarity on the need to determine controls by the risk treatment process
  • Controls in Annex A have been modified to reflect changing threats and have a more logical grouping. Specific controls have also been added around cryptography and security in supplier relationships
  • Greater emphasis is on setting objectives, monitoring performance and metrics

Almir Business has helped many clients with their implementation and certification to ISO/IEC 27001.  If you have any queries on ISO/IEC 27001:2013 or on the transition to the new standard we would be welcome to assist you. Please contact us at info@almir.biz

Fr Pat’s Philippines Christmas Fundraiser

Fr Pat Reynolds, a Redemptorist Priest was ordained in the Philippines in December 1963 and where he worked as a missionary for over 25 years. He is currently based in Dublin. For some time he had planned to return to the seminary in Cebu for 2 months to celebrate the 50th university of his ordination.

He returned to Cebu on December 6th. However instead of a nostalgic trip he faced the carnage of the aftermath of the recent storm. His family successfully organised this fundraiser to ensure that he returned with funds that will provide direct assistance in the locality around the seminary.
